About Mergecoil
Mergecoil is an independent web game built around one idea: what if the snake from Snake could shrink again by playing 2048 with its own body?
The design idea
Classic Snake is a game of pure accumulation — every point makes you longer until the board runs out. Classic 2048 is a game of consolidation — you merge tiles to make space for bigger numbers. Mergecoil fuses the two so that the thing that threatens you (your growing body) is also the thing you can cleverly shrink.
Every rule exists to serve that single tension. Tiles only merge at the tail, so position and order matter. The board is small, so space is always precious. The speed rises slowly, so planning beats reflexes. We wanted a puzzle that is easy to read in ten seconds and still interesting after a hundred runs.
Why combine Snake and 2048?
Each game covers the other’s weakness. Snake has wonderful moment-to-moment tension but no long-term goal beyond “don’t die”. 2048 has a satisfying long-term build but a static board. Together they create something neither has alone: a moving survival game with a concrete, reachable objective — the 2048 tile.
The number on each body segment turns your tail into a resource you manage, not just a hazard you avoid. Deciding which tile to eat next is the same decision as in 2048, except the board is trying to eat you back.
An independent project
Mergecoil is designed, built, and maintained by a small independent team. The artwork, code, and words on this site are original to this project. The game is free, runs entirely in your browser, and stores your progress only on your own device.
A note on the name
“Snake 2048” describes a genre — a snake game with 2048-style merging — and other games use similar names. Mergecoil is its own original game and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or the official site of any other product with a similar name. If you were looking for a different “Snake 2048”, this one is independent and made by us.
